![]() You absolutely need Bronze and Stone production, so start looking for them early. It's a really close call if they're better boosting production or reducing army costs, but I think it's worthwhile having at least one Envoy spec'ed out for production boosts, and parked in a Stone or Bronze settlement. High level Envoys can massively boost production of critical resources. That said, see the related point under Recruiting, below. Sarpedon will push his influence onto you with any barters or Lycian events.I find that optimal barters tend to be medium-sized single barters for resources where the partner has very large deficits or surpluses. You can significantly boost overall production with clever bartering. Look for good barters every turn with friends and allies.Keep an eye on that 60% mark, and don't hesitate to build influence buildings and keep your Envoys busy if needed. Influence has a huge impact on your production.Yes, this is about you, Aegisthus and Clytemnestra. You're most likely to get stuck by getting ahead of yourself rather than falling behind - like conquering a settlement you need to raze, or gifting to an ally territory you need to hold for yourself. If you're going for a Homeric victory, the quests will be fairly logical and step-by-step, and you shouldn't need to second-guess them. The enemy will very likely eventually call in his allies, but not always, and this may buy you a few turns to focus on them before the whole enemy coalition shows up. You can get into a war with another power without triggering their call to allies by going to someone they are already at war with and offering to join in.Either get them into the coalition or take them out, even the so-called "Pillars". They can and will declare war on your allies - or you - at the worst possible times. Take out the trash and get rid of minor powers that aren't part of your big coalition. One trick is to set a target for a minor ally that's along the line of expansion, but far away they'll get lots of scouting in while they make their way there, and be a useful speed bump in case there are big enemy armies heading the other direction. Your allies aren't quite brain-dead, but they do need a bit of a push. Set war targets for allies to keep them involved. They'll do the work of defending it for you while keeping it out of the hands of the enemy. If you feel like you can't hold newly conquered territory, gift it to an ally. ![]() If they're on your side and get enough territory, they'll single-handedly dismantle the opposition for you, so don't be afraid to help them grow. Specifically: Hector or Achilles, sometimes Hippolyta or Menelaus. A juggernaut of an ally makes the game a lot easier. You need allies to help scout out enemy armies headed your way, and to help deal with them. Garrisons are weak, and the ocean makes it easy for the enemy to find holes in your defenses. You need strong allies on the defense. You get supply line penalties, your allies don't, and once the big map-wide war begins, it's going to be difficult to push forward on several fronts on your own.
